Willie Birch

Bio

Willie Birch (b. 1942) is a New Orleans–based artist whose work engages in social practice examining race, class, and culture through everyday and historical narratives. His art has been shown at major institutions including MoMA, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Studio Museum in Harlem, New Orleans Museum of Art, and SFMoMA. His work is included in numerous museum collections nationwide. Birch has received fellowships from the Guggenheim Foundation, Joan Mitchell Foundation, and NEA. His upcoming retrospective, "Willie Birch: Stories to Tell," is co-organized by the New Orleans Museum of Art and the American Federation of Arts, with a Yale University Press catalogue. He is represented by Fort Gansevoort in New York.
